My family moved to Bogotá in July 1971 because of my father's job. 

There we lived in a neighborhood that was being built and was previously a rural area.

In 1972 I received my first dance lesson. During that time I also received lessons in reading and writing and numbers with a small group of children from our neighborhood.

In February 1973, my father's work project ended, so we moved to Manizales, a city near a volcano and one of the well-known Colombian coffee regions. Incidentally, my father comes from a well-known coffee family. Every second person in Manizales is named Mejia.

In 1974 I started at school Colegio San Luis Gonzaga (a Jesuit school).

n December we moved the whole family to Puente Mayorga, which is in the Cádiz region of Spain, very close to Gibraltar. There's a big oil refinery there. In Puente Mayorga I studied from 1975 to February 1976  at the Sagrado Corazón school. We later visited Puente Mayorga with Chiqui, my school, the market place and the house where we lived. And of course the refinery is still there.

In February 1976 we moved back to Bogotá. There I went to the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús School (Betlemitas). I stayed there until 1984 and finished high school. 

​

I was always one of the best students of my year.
